Bullying

We had a couple guest speakers that came in this semester to talk about a variety of things. The speakers that stood out most were the anti-bullying ones. Two girls were waiting in the front of the class when we walked in. At first I thought they were helping out Emily but then we started talking about bullying and how everyone is affected by bullying. Their presentation was very eye opening. To find out that ignoring someone is a form of bullying is mind blowing. The first thing we did was put on a nametag so the two young ladies would know each of our names. Then one of the speakers randomly lays a red line of duck tape on the floor and had students stand on either side of it. Next, we were asked questions, and for every question that was a yes you had to step on the line. The whole point of this exercise was to show the people in the class that we have a lot more in common then we think we do, and that people go through the same situations as others. It dawned on me that most of the kids in my class have been or have taken part in bullying someone.

After that the two speakers had the class take their seats, which was shaped, in a circle so everyone could see each other. We then classified the different types of bullying. This exercise was to show that there is many different types of bullying that we might not even know were participating in. For example, there is verbal bullying, cyber bullying, symbol bullying, a lack of communication is bullying, and excluding people was bullying. Those few examples are not where the list stops. Bullying is killing people inside day by day. The hardest thing to do this day in age is to get kids to speak up and tell someone that they are or have been bullied.

This hits home for me because I met a girl in 7th grade by the name of Veronica. We were very good friends and she would even come over after school sometimes. I never knew something was wrong with her until I got the phone call that she had tried to kill herself. I was livid and didn’t know what to do. When I saw her next I asked her one simple question… why didn’t you tell me? She looked up slowly and said, “I was scared and embarrassed”. Thats the problem these victims go through, their scared to tell because the bully might find out, and their embarrassed to tell people.

On the other hand, the last activity we did was take sheets of paper write your name on the top and send it around the room. Two rules, you had to write one good compliment about the person, and you couldn’t write on your own paper. When I received my paper back and looked at all the good things my classmates had to say about me I couldn’t do anything but smile because I never knew they had good thoughts let alone good thoughts about me. So for me, the bullying seminar was the most touching shall I say.

2041

It's 2041 and every morning I wake up to my face hitting the ground. My alarm clock is basically my bed and when it's time to wake up it just drops me on the floor. If I'm lucky, sometimes I'll wake up before my alarm clock goes off so I don't have a terrible hangover like headache for the first two classes of my day. While I lift myself off of the floor I use my IPhone 19 app too cook a perfect breakfast. I then walk over to my closet and enter the day and date. This machine automatically knows the weather and what you have planned on that day so it creates, and collects an outfit that fits.

I then walk to the kitchen and get the food I "ordered" off my phone and turned on the T.V, which are the windows. One button and suddenly I go from watching the world to Watching ESPN. The government has taken reform after being in a world war three so at the moment we have anarchy. My dad is the King, which means I will be in charge of my country when he steps down. School is not like it was back in the day. There is no such thing as classrooms or a class in college Instead we have what we call hologram teacher. My class begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. so I wake up at 7:58 a.m. I then reach for my teacher briefcase and type in the class code. Instantly, my teacher is standing in my living room ready to teach. I love having a hologram teacher, not only can I wake up two minutes before class, but I can also ask her any question I want and there’s no other students so I get all the help and attention I need.

During class I give my teacher undivided attention because it is now illegal to live in the U.S without going to college and getting your degree. Of course you have to be old enough but I totally agree with that rule and use it as motivation so I can keep living the American dream. After the legalization of pot back in 2015 we now have classes on how to sell and grow it. Kind of weird if you ask me. When I’m done with school I usually catch the hovercraft into the city where I can do pretty much whatever I want. Dinner is usually waiting for me when I get home and my body is programmed to go to sleep so I better be in my bed a minute before ten o’clock because if not I’ll wake up wherever I was when the clock hit 10 p.m.

Advertising

You see advertising in almost everything these days. Whether its movies, shows, billboards, radio, even sports. Everyday the average person is exposed to about 1,600 ads daily. In addition, the average human will only remember 3 ads they have seen that day. It comes to show that in today's age advertising is one of the most important departments in a business. As an advertiser your job is to draw peoples attention to your product. First of all, People buy brands not products. Why? because they know what their going to get out of that product based on the brand. McDonalds for example has been the leading fast food restaurant franchise in the world because of it's consistency. They don't change colors or products, they just find different ways to make a product better. When it comes down to it, advertising is probably the easiest thing to do in the world. Whether its sex appeal, a celebrity, colors, or a jingle all you want is to climb into your consumers mind.

I choose the Digiorno commercial where the guy dresses up like a pizza delivery guy and gets into a huge mansion party. That would never happen in a million years. This ad is obviously directed towards college kids like myself. College kids love parties, and pizza right? so why not throw both in a commercial? When the Kid gets into the house all you see is white marble. Every and any college would want to see white marble when they go into a party. Digiorno doesn't really have a jingle but it's motto is very very catchy; "It's not delivery, It's Digiorno's". This motto basically states that the pizza is so good you would think it's delivery, when in reality you cook it in the oven. Of course the pizza they show on the commercial looks nothing like the ones you get but we all know that. I have personally never tried Digiorno's but I feel like it wouldn't even compare to delivery pizza. It's manipulative but at the same time untruthful. You want to eat it, but you would never try to get into a party like that.

Ecological Footprint

While finding out my ecological footprint i began to realize how hazardous i was to the environment. If everyone lived like me we need 5.3 Earths to provide resources. In addition, I take up 23.7 acres of productive area to support my lifestyle. When I first saw this I was shocked but then I started thinking about my lifestyle and it honestly seemed to all add up.

When I think of my ecological footprint I simply think of a footprint. For example, when you walk on the beach you leave your footprint and the sand changes shape. Now just think of the sand as the earth (which it is) and my foot as me; I'm shaping the world more and more every day by the way I live, and It's not a good way. Adding on, I need to sustain what I do so I can help sustain the earth.

Sustainability is the long-term maintenance of well being. When making choices in life you have to take into consideration what affects you will have on the environment. We can sustain the environment if we recycle, use  incandescent light bulbs, unplug electronics we are not using, and more. When buying products, you should take into account how long the product will last. If the product will last longer then it takes to make the product then the product is sustainable.

To reduce my own footprint, I need to stop using up so much gas. I am constantly on the road increasing pollution using about 40 gallons of gas a week. I can fix this by starting to carpool with friends or walking and biking. Instead of making several trips to the store during the week, I wait until the end of the week and make one trip. By living on campus and taking the bus, I am now using less gas then when I had to drive all the way to school and back.

Introducing Myself

My name is Garrett Charles Prock and I was born in Coral Springs Florida. I have lived in Deerfield Beach Florida for the 18 years I've been present, and I have loved every minute of my time there. However, I went to school in a city called Coconut Creek, which was literally a bridge away from Deerfield. Sports have also been a huge part in my life along with music. It's funny because my Dad made sure I Played sports and my Mom made sure I played an instrument.

When I was three I Started playing the drums and piano, my mom was a music teacher so I really had no choice but now I'm happy she taught me because not only do I get all the babes (JOKE) but i also have something to fall back on if my intended path doesn't work out for me. Around the same time I started to play pee wee soccer which really opened my eyes up to the competitive side of the world. I went on and played almost every sport throughout the 18 years of my life. I seemed to always like football the most, which would explain why I would go on and start 4 years of Football in High school.

I went to Monarch High School, which is a school that is way to over populated. High school was a blast but I'm happy I'm out of that school cause one more year probably would have killed me. Six years ago I started to play the guitar and I know have two songs written and one that is recorded. I have two sisters and an older brother. I’m a uncle and a brother in-law. I have a Dog named princess and she's the only girl that gets my attention.

This summer I had a very important decision to make, Go play Football in college and try to make it to the NFL, or focus on my business career and obviously I choose to take my talents to the Fort.
